Know what you're paying for, before it bills you. Here are the answers — and a real person on the other end of the email.

Frequently asked questions

Does Skint connect to my bank?

No — and it never will. Skint is a manual tracker: you add what you're paying for, it does the maths and reminds you. Bank linking would mean handing your credentials to a third party, which is a trade we're not willing to make on your behalf. It also means the app works with no internet connection at all.

Why do I have to type in exchange rates myself?

Because the app never goes online. Set your home currency and the rates you want in Settings, and the rollup uses those until you change them. The upside is total privacy and offline use; the trade is that rates are as current as you make them, so it's worth revisiting them now and then.

My reminders aren't firing.

Reminders are scheduled on your phone, so check iOS Settings → Notifications → Skint is allowed. Then check the subscription's own reminder lead time (1, 3 or 7 days) and that it isn't paused. Reminders are scheduled when you add or edit a subscription, so if you denied notifications at first and allowed them later, open and re-save the subscription.

Can I hide prices from my lock screen?

Reminders and the widget both name the service and its price — that's what makes them useful at a glance, but it does mean anyone glancing at your phone can read them. Turn off notifications for Skint, or remove the widget, if you'd rather they didn't.

Is my data backed up? What if I lose my phone?

There's no cloud sync, so your list lives on the device. It is included in your normal iPhone backup (iCloud Backup or an encrypted computer backup), so restoring a backup to a new phone brings it back. If you've never backed the phone up, the data goes with the phone.

Are there in-app purchases?

None. You bought the app; you have all of it. No tiers, no limits to bump into, and no subscription — which would be a bit rich in a subscription tracker.

How do I get a refund?

Purchases are handled by Apple, so refunds go through them. Request one at reportaproblem.apple.com using the Apple Account you bought with.
